Make an expense report from a pile of receipts (template + steps)
An expense report is just a table of who you paid, when, what for and how much — backed by the receipts. Here's the fastest way to make one.
Steps
- Collect the receipts for the period: photos, email PDFs and paper receipts (photograph them flat).
- Drop them all into TillSheet (free: 3 at a time, 10 a day; Pro: a whole folder at once).
- Check the ⚠ rows, pick a category for each, and add a short business purpose in the vendor or number column if your policy asks for one.
- Download Excel. The Receipts sheet is your report; Summary gives the totals per category and currency.
- Attach the original receipt files to your submission.
What most expense policies require
- An itemised receipt (not just a card slip) for meals and hotels.
- Tips listed separately — TillSheet extracts tips and gratuities as their own column.
- Foreign-currency receipts kept in their original currency, converted at the rate your policy specifies. TillSheet never mixes currencies in one total.
- In the US, the IRS generally expects documentary evidence for lodging and for other business expenses of $75 or more under an accountable plan.
